Notices Served On Owners of 290 Decrepit Houses in Nalgonda
NALGONDA: The authorities have identified about 290 houses in the urban areas of erstwhile Nalgonda district that are vulnerable to natural calamities during monsoon and issued notices to their owners.
Following monsoon, officials have taken up a survey in Nalgonda, Miryalaguda, Nakrekal, Haliya, Chandur and Nandikonda in Nalgonda and Suryapet, Kodad, Tirumalgiri and Nidmanoor in Suryapet district.
The officials also visited several colonies in Choutuppal, Bhongir, Yadagirigutta, Alair and Mothkur municipalities in Yadadri-Bhongir district and submitted a report to the urban development and municipal administration department.
Three members of a family had died when an old house collapsed at Nagaram in Suryapet district due to incessant rain in last monsoon season.
In the survey, 93 houses were found dilapidated in five municipalities in Suryapet district and 115 houses in eight municipalities in Nalgonda district.
The civic authorities have issued notices to the owners asking them either to vacate them or take up repairing works for their safety.
The municipal staff also explained to the house owners on how to keep their old abodes safe during rain. They also asked them to remove branches or trees near their houses.
Suryapet municipal commissioner K. Srinivas said the municipal staff had framed certain parameters to identify the houses. “The density of houses is generally high in urban areas. We are also cautioning the residents of colonies about the dangers posed by their houses in dilapidated condition. We would do a follow-up next week to check whether the house owners have carried out the suggestions.”
B. Ashok Kumar, who received a notice from the municipal authorities, said his family is living in his ancestral house and demolishing it is not financially possible for him. The government should extend financial help to owners of old houses for construction of new houses, he added.
