NY Eve Drunk Driving: Hyderabad City Police Register 1,184 Cases

Hyderabad: It was a nightmare for hundreds of vehicle drivers and riders from the city due to intensified checks by the traffic police on Tuesday’s New Year eve. They seized over 1000 vehicles, including four-wheelers, for drunken driving.

In what was an extreme violation, a rider was caught riding his two-wheeler at Vengalrao park in Panjagutta traffic police limits with an alcohol reading of 550 points. The legal limit for blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is 30 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood.

The city traffic police registered 1,184 drunken driving cases across the city. The highest was in east zone, where 236 cases were registered and their vehicles seized.

Drunk driving checkpoints were in 1500 places till Wednesday morning.

Police officials said that they had issued challans to all violators asking them to appear for counselling and subsequently before the court.
