Hyderabad: The nearly 150-year-old Firangi Nala which has been in the news, especially with a survey of the extent of its existence around the Janwada farmhouse linked to BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao that began on Tuesday, was thoroughly inspected around the farmhouse on Wednesday with officials from the irrigation and revenue departments prima facie finding that the part of the farmhouse has encroached upon the nala.
On Wednesday, a team of six officials — two from the irrigation department and four from the revenue department — surveyed the nala which is believed to have had a width of nearly 20 metres but now reduced to just a few.
They also found that part of the compound wall and the main gate were built on the nala after it was encroached upon by filling it. It was also found that while the nala itself was encroached upon, there were no signs of a nine-metre wide undisturbed buffer zone for the nala itself anywhere in the vicinity.
Officials conducting the survey said their task was to establish the facts on the ground, compare it with the existing map of the nala, take measurements, and submit their report to their superiors.
It is expected that once the report is submitted and is cross checked, Ranga Reddy district authorities could issue notices to the farmhouse owner, followed by demolition activity.
It may be recalled that the Janwada farmhouse has been in the news for the past few days with the government cracking down on encroachments on tank and lake beds and their buffer zones, as well as on nalas and their buffer zones.
With fears that the authorities were likely to demolish the farmhouse, or part of it, its owner Pradeep Reddy, from whom Rama Rao said he leased the property, had approached the High Court seeking protection from any demolition.
