Officials to Pump Water at Sripada Yellampally
Hyderabad’s second-largest water source now operating at reduced capacity amid declining levels.

Hyderabad: With the water level in the Sripada Yellampalli Project (SYP) decreasing, the metro water board is gearing up to pump water using 25 motors with a capacity of 125 HP each.
The SYP is one of the major sources of drinking water supply to the city. While its full water storage capacity is 20.175 tmc ft feet, it has now decreased to 9.5 thousand million cubic (tmc) feet.
Officials insisted that the current water level was better than that of last year, when it had fallen to 7.5 tmc ft. “We have received instructions to ensure there is no disruption in water supply from this project,” he added.
The SYP is the second-largest source of drinking water for Hyderabad. At present, 56 million gallons of water per day (MGD) is being supplied from the project, compared to the normal supply of 86 MGD.
Akkampally (Krishna Phase-I, II, III) is the major source of drinking water for the city, supplying 226 MGD.
