Only 3% got scheme benefits: Bandi Sanjay

Hyderabad: Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has accused the Telangana government of failing to deliver on its welfare promises, stating that less than three percent of beneficiaries of four key schemes — Rythu Bharosa, Indiramma Houses, Ration Cards and Indiramma Athmiya Bharosa — have received benefits since their launch on Republic Day.

In an open letter to the Chief Minister, he wrote, “You promised to deposit Rs 20,000 crore annually into the accounts of 70 lakh farmers. Under Indiramma Athmiya Bharosa, you assured Rs 12,000 per year for 10 lakh landless agricultural labourers. Additionally, you pledged to issue ration cards to 40 lakh families and build four lakh houses across the state, with 3,500 allocated per constituency. These were to be implemented from January 26, with Rythu Bharosa funds credited by month-end.”

However, implementation has been slow. Of the state’s 12,991 gram panchayats, only 561 villages — one per mandal — were chosen for these schemes. So far, just 4,41,911 farmers have received Rs 6,000 per acre under Rythu Bharosa. Under Indiramma Athmiya Bharosa, only 20,336 landless laborer families have received assistance, leaving 9.79 lakh families without support. On ration cards, he said, “The government promised 40 lakh new ration cards but has identified only 42,267 beneficiaries — just one% of the target. Similarly, of over 70 lakh housing applications, 40 lakh were deemed eligible, including 10 lakh in Greater Hyderabad. Yet, only 72,406 people have received house allotment papers.”

Terming this performance a betrayal of public trust, Sanjay Kumar urged the Chief Minister to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries receive their promised aid by the end of the month. He also demanded that ration shops and cards display Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photograph to highlight the Centre’s role in providing free ration. Further, he insisted that houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana retain their original scheme name. “If these demands are ignored, a public uprising will be inevitable, and the state government will be held responsible,” he warned.
