ONOE will save public money: Kishan
Hyderabad: State BJP chief and Union minister G. Kishan Reddy welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval for the "One Nation, One Election" (ONOE) proposal, saying it would save public funds and make the elections a level-playing field for regional parties.
In a statement, Kishan Reddy said the conduct of continuous elections disrupted development works due to frequent imposition of the model code of conduct. The ONOE proposed holding polls to the Lok Sabha, state Assemblies and local bodies one after the other within a period of 100 days.
"Besides burdening government employees with regular election duty, the poll format being followed now leads to fatigue among voters," he said.
The BJP minister also pointed out that 32 political parties, out of the 47 parties consulted by the Ram Nath Kovind Committee on the ONOE proposal ahd responded positively. The national growth rate is also expected to increase in the conduct of simultaneous elections, Kishan Reddy said.
