Opinions Divided: Jaya Jaya He Telangana Got Due Respect, but It’s Filmy

Hyderabad, Nalgonda: Telangana’s anthem ‘Jaya Jaya He Telangana,’ released by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday, received mixed responses from people. While many expressed their appreciation for the anthem as it highlighted the culture and greatness of Telangana, some others felt it to be cinematic.

Writer and singer Ambati Venkanna said the anthem might not exactly sound similar to the one that reverberated across Telangana during the statehood agitation. But writer Ande Sri nor the song got proper respect in the 10 years after the formation of the state.

“Chief Minister Revanth Reddy needs to be appreciated for making the famous Telangana song the state anthem. Finally, the song has got the respect deserved for its contribution in inculcating fighting spirit in the people,” Venkanna added.

Gundu Venkanna, who attended the Telangana Formation Day celebrations at Nalgonda, said ‘Jaya Jaya He Telangana’ seems to be composed as an official song. It is suitable to be played at schools. However, the purpose of the original version of ‘Jaya Jaya He Telangana’ was different during the statehood agitation, he opined.

A user on X wrote: “It's an emotional moment to Ande Sri garu...I read about him & his song in Telangana history book....finally Revanth Reddy recognised him.”

“Ande Sri wrote the song 20 years ago, in accordance with the Telangana movement. He wrote the newer version of that song in respect to the current perseverance and prosperity of Telangana. This change is needed, and it is well-suited,” another user wrote in his comment on YouTube.

Katta Srinivas said the new state anthem lacked the originality of the ‘Jaya Jaya He Telangana’ song and did not resonate with the Telangana spirit. “It is like a movie song. Music and style of singing do not reflect the Telangana culture,” he added.

A netizen on X said: “The present song was composed in a cinematic way, which won't appease the masses who participated in the Telangana movement.”

A user on Reddit wrote, “It kind of feels like a movie song. Doesn't have anything about the Telangana struggle either, which I was expecting”, to which another Redditor replied, “It has a Baahubali song vibe.”
