Oppn Making a Hue, Cry Over Caste Census: Gutha
Telangana Govt Stands by Caste Census Amid Opposition Criticism

Nalgonda: Telangana State Legislative Council chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy on Tuesday came down heavily on the opposition for making a huge hue and cry over the caste census conducted by the state government.
Speaking to the media at his camp office here, he said that the state government has taken up a historic decision for conducting the caste census in Telangana. About 97 per cent of the families in the state were covered by the caste census. The state government has also discussed the caste census in the Assembly and the Council, he added.
Indirectly referring to the allegations by the opposition on caste census, he said that five to six lakhs of voters use their voting rights in elections in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It resulted in a mismatch between figures in voters’ lists and the caste census. He suggested to link voter IDs with Aadhar cards to overcome the situation.
Stating that the Sakala Janula Survey, conducted by the BRS government, is not authentic, he pointed out that the BRS government had not presented the report of the Sakala Janula Survey either in the Assembly or in the Council. He termed the Sakala Janula Survey as a survey with full of flaws.
He accused the opposition parties of trying to utilise the caste census for the sake of politics. The state government took up the caste census with a good intention to provide reservations to BCs on elections to the local bodies.
He wrote a letter to Chief Minister A Reventh Reddy asking the state government to issue ration cards to all BPL families. The state government should also extend Rythu Bharosa to all eligible farmers, he added.
