Our Officials Never Make Threatening Calls, Clarifies ACB DG

Bureau urges government employees to report fake calls demanding bribes, and provides a helpline for complaints.

Hyderabad: Days after reports of miscreants posing as Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials to dupe government servants, officials from the agency on Sunday urged government officers not to fall prey to such fake calls and instead lodge WhatsApp complaints with the ACB.

Deccan Chronicle had on Sunday published a report about pseudo-ACB ‘officials’ threatening and collecting money from government officers so that cases would not be registered against them. Responding to the report, ACB Director General Vijay Kumar clarified that the bureau officials never call government officers in connection with cases related to the agency.

He said in a statement that it had come to their notice that some people were making fake calls while posing as ACB officials and threatening public servants by demanding money to avoid cases being registered against them.

“Government employees should not believe such calls or make payments to such callers," he said.

"Any public servant or common people receiving such calls should immediately contact ACB toll free No 1064 and also inform the local police station. The Telangana ACB can be contacted through social media platforms such as WhatsApp -- 9440446106, Facebook (Telangana ACB), X/twitter-- @TelanganaACB," Vijay Kumar said.

Some miscreants posed as ACB officials and duped a revenue officer in Yadadri district a few days ago to the overall tune of Rs 3 lakh. The victim approached the cybercrime police for assistance.
