People slam GHMC for garbage dumping on roads
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is facing criticism for its failing to address the issue of garbage dumping on roads. Despite distributing wet and dry waste bins for door-to-door collection, many areas continue to be cluttered with garbage, which causes inconvenience to commuters by blocking roads.
The garbage collection process, managed by Swachh Auto Tipper (SAT) vehicles, has been criticised for irregularities. Residents complain that waste collectors often miss houses and fail to function properly. Some people also allege that SAT vehicles dump collected waste back onto roads, worsening the condition.
S..Bhargava, a resident of Madannapet Colony, said that garbage is regularly dumped near a transformer beside his house. When vehicles try to clear garbage, they often touch the transformer, causing power outages. After public garbage bins were removed, people are dumping openly on roads, creating an unhealthy situation in the locality.
Another local in Madannapet raised concerns about garbage piling up in front of a school and a ration shop. “Odour causes inconvenience to students, could cause diseases and create an unhealthy environment,” he said.
While GHMC’s sanitation workers clear garbage regularly, it often reappears within hours. Residents urged the officials to take stronger measures to enforce proper waste management and prevent diseases and stop roads from turning into dumping grounds.
