PG entry rules changed to benefit TG students: Minister

Hyderabad:Health minister Damodar Raja Narasimha tweeted about the court verdict on admissions of medical PG seats. The High Court, on Tuesday, disposed of the petitions questioning GO 148, which amended Rule VIII of the Telangana Medical Colleges (Admission into Postgraduate Medical Courses) Rules, 2021.

The two-judge bench held that the candidates who have completed their MBBS, BAMS and BHMS from Telangana or have completed MBBS, BAMS and BHMS from 'local area' as defined in the Presidential Order, 1974, are entitled to participate in the counselling for admission to postgraduate courses in Telangana for seats for local candidates in the academic year 2024-25.

Responding to the court order, the minister said their government had brought GOs 148 and 149 to make non-local students who studied under the 15 per cent unreserved quota in medical colleges in Telangana ineligible for the local quota in PG admissions, thereby benefiting Telangana students.

"This change is only to do justice to Telangana students, not to harm them. Some people are distorting the court's statement by saying that non-locals should be given a chance. They are spreading false propaganda as if justice has been served to Telangana students with this verdict. We appeal to Telangana students and parents not to believe such Goebbels' propaganda. We will examine the court order thoroughly and take steps to ensure that local students get PG seats," the minister tweeted.
