Snooping case: Bhujanga Rao and Radhakishan Rao get bail

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Thursday granted bail to two accused in the phone-tapping case, suspended additional SP N. Bhujanaga Rao, and task force retired DCP P. Radhakishan Rao. They are accused numbers three and five, respectively, in the case.

Bhujanga Rao has been on interim bail on health grounds, while Radhakishan Rao is lodged in the Chanchalguda jail.

The Supreme Court had earlier this week granted bail to another accused Mekala Tirupatanna.

While granting bail to Bhujanga Rao and Radhakishan Rao, the HC wanted each of them to execute a personal bond of `1 lakh, with two sureties for the like sum each and surrender of their passports before the trial court.

Following Thursday’s development, only D. Praneeth Rao remains in prison, while prime accused T. Prabhakar Rao and accused number six A. Sharavan Kumar have been staying abroad even before the phone-tapping case was registered.

Justice K. Sujana considered the arguments of the petitioners, who submitted that the charge sheet was filed, and the police had sought permission to file further evidence in the form of supplementary or additional charge sheet, which is yet to be completed. In view of the same, there is a likelihood of delay in commencing the trial, they said.

Moreover, the court took into account the fact that both accused were arrested over 10 months back in March 2024.

The High Court was not inclined to take into consideration the prosecution’s submission opposing bail as the personal computer of the accused contained certain information about High Court Judges. The court examined the sealed cover submitted by the prosecution but refrained from commenting on the information it contained.

The court directed both accused to appear before the station house officer at 11 am every Monday for the next eight weeks, and thereafter, as and when required.
