Plea Seeks Action Against Two Illegal Pubs in Bachupally

Hyderabad: Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of the Telangana High Court took on file a writ plea seeking action against ‘The Golden Barrel’ pub and ‘Ta’ Qila Club’ situated at Bachupally. The judge was hearing a writ plea filed by Akula Satish, a social worker, alleging that the pubs were running illegally and in violation of municipal and excise laws. The petitioner was seeking a direction to the government and the police to conduct a detailed inquiry and take appropriate action against the unofficial respondent. The judge directed the government pleader, appearing for the official respondents, to get instructions and posted the matter for further adjudication.

PIL asks for shelving of proposed ELF radar project at Damagundam reserve forest

A two-judge panel of the Telangana High Court deferred hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a direction to roll back the decision of allotting land to Eastern Naval Command for the proposed very low frequency project at Damagundam reserve forest. The panel, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Sreenivas Rao, was dealing with a PIL filed by Damagundum forest protection joint action committee (JAC). It was the case of the petitioner that the site was a fragile ecosystem and establishing the project would lead to its irreparable damage. The panel earlier directed that any steps taken by the respondents to continue with project shall be subject to the outcome of the PIL. The panel reiterated the same while dealing with an interim application seeking a direction to the respondents not to cut trees in the Damagundam reserve forest. The petitioners inter alia sought a direction to conduct an environmental impact assessment of the project by an expert agency or committee and produce the report to the court. The panel on Monday appointed Vivek Jain as amicus curiae to assist in the proceedings and directed the government to file its response.

State flayed for inaction on admissions of non-TG students in B. Tech

Justice T. Vinod Kumar of the Telangana High Court criticised the government’s inaction in rejecting admissions for out-of-state students under the lateral entry category for BTech programmes for the academic year 2024-25. The judge was hearing a writ plea filed by GP Educational Society, challenging the decision of the convenor of TS-ECET (admissions) in rejecting the aforesaid admissions, arguing that the decision was arbitrary and unconstitutional. Earlier, the judge noted that similar interim relief was granted in comparable cases, allowing students to continue their studies, attend exams and get results at their own risk. Following this precedent, the judge directed the authorities to permit the petitioner institution to proceed with training, examinations and results of the affected students, clarifying that this interim arrangement does not grant the students any rights or equities. However, the judge expressed displeasure over the respondent's failure to address the issue, emphasising that the case had been pending since 2015 without any response filed by the government. Highlighting the need for an expeditious resolution, the judge posted the matter for further hearing to December 11.

TGPRB’s cancellation of constable’s training challenged

Justice Pulla Karthik of the Telangana High Court will decide a writ plea challenging the actions of the chairman of Telangana Police Recruitment Board (TGPRB) in issuing a cancellation memorandum resulting in an ex-serviceman not being sent for training. The judge was hearing a writ plea filed by Pappula Srinu, alleging that the cancellation order passed by the respondent authorities was illegal and violates the Constitution as it is based on the petitioner’s alleged involvement in a crime, wherein he was acquitted. The petitioner alleged that due to the actions of the respondents, he is not being sent for the stipendiary cadet trainee police constable (civil) training in the state police department. The petitioner is seeking setting aside of the cancellation memorandum and direction to TGPRB for considering his acquittal judgement, thereby facilitating his training. The judge posted the matter for further hearing.
