Nalgonda: Police on Sunday rescued two persons who were stranded in Musi river at Bheemaram of Kethepally mandal in the district.
Bayya gangaiah and Surugu Bala Swamy were caught in Musi river when gates of the project were lifted. The engineers of Musi project lifted three crest gates up to four feet at 5.30 am and released 4,400 cusecs of water to the downstream without issuing any warning. Bheemaram was located 14 kilometers from Musi project near the downstream.
The two men who went to rear cattle were stranded in Musi river when the flow of water suddenly increased. They saved their lives by climbing onto a big rock in the middle of the river.
The police rushed to the place and tried to rescue them using a proclainer, but the efforts did not succeed as the water level was eight feet deep at the place. Then, the crest gates were closed by the engineers at 3 pm that brought down the water level. At 7 pm, the police personnel brought the two stranded persons to the shore
According to the villagers, six other laborers were also loading sand at the place at that time, but managed to reach the shore noticing an increase in water level. A tractor was also washed away in the river.
The water level in Musi project reached 644.45 feet as against the Full Tank Level of 645 feet at 5 am.
