Police Struggling to Open Patnam’s Locked Mobile

Hyderabad: Police officials probing the attack on Vikarabad district collector Prateek Jain and revenue officials at Lagcharla, are having a tough time in cracking open data in the mobile phone of BRS leader Patnam Narender Reddy, prime accused. Reddy had handed over his phone to the police after locking the system.

Meanwhile, Vikarabad police are waiting for court orders to take police custody of Narender Reddy for questioning in connection with the case. The court order is awaited as arguments by both sides have been completed.

Reddy's counsel urged the local court not to issue orders on police custody as they had filed a petition before the High court to quash the case.

Sources said that police had seized Reddy’s mobile phone during his arrest. However, the phone was locked by the accused and the police were unable to open it.

“We will open the phone after taking custody of the accused or we will take assistance of experts to open the phone so that we can decode the system and get more leads in connection with the offence,” a source said.

A team of police has been assigned the task of taking assistance of cybercrime officials to unlock the mobile for getting data and call details.

A few days ago, Prateek Jain and revenue officials were attacked by Lagcharla villagers during a public hearing meeting on land acquisition for setting up a pharma unit. Narender Reddy, the police claim, had made a number of calls to the key accused B. Suresh.
