Police Urge CBI to Act on Phone-Tapping Case Accused in US

Hyderabad: The police have approached the CBI director to issue a ‘red corner’ notice on the phone-tapping case prime accused T. Prabhakar Rao, former SIB chief, and Shravan Kumar Rao, managing director of I-News, who are in the US.

“We have written to the US Embassy and immigration department stating that the accused are wanted in a very serious case and are misusing their visa,” city police commissioner Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy told the media on Saturday.

Sources said the CBI was the nodal agency to coordinate with Interpol and the US government of the accused.

“The case will go ahead once the main people are arrested and they are now absconding. We have written to the US Consul General also that they (the accused) are misusing the other country's visas. We are hopeful in the coming days...,” Sreenivasa Reddy said. He said it the application for red corner notices were under process and “we want to expedite it.”

“The case is going on and the other accused in the case, who are in jail, despite their best efforts are not getting bail because this is a serious crime which involved invasion into the private lives of the people,” the police commissioner said.

Asked if the police were contemplating issuing notices to political leaders, Sreenivasa Reddy said, said “as the case progresses...definitely.”
