Police urge to use safer threads for kite flying

Hyderabad: Cyberabad police issued an advisory urging the public to refrain from using dangerous kite strings, particularly the nylon Chinese manja and glass or metal-coated desi threads, during kite-flying activities.

Pressing that these materials are extremely sharp and can cause severe injuries, even fatalities, the police highlighted that motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians are especially at risk. These hazardous threads

that may dangle across roads, leading to accidents, cautioned the police.

Mentioning precautions, the police added that children flying kites on rooftops or elevated areas are vulnerable to falls and injuries. They emphasised the need for closer supervision of children during kite-flying activities. They recommend using eco-friendly cotton strings, flying kites in open areas away from roads, and wearing protective gear like helmets for motorcyclists and cyclists. The police also advised the public to dispose of the broken kite strings to prevent harm to animals and the environment.
