Ponguleti picks holes in 2020 ROR act; flays BRS

Hyderabad: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Wednesday said that the government is launching the Bhu Bharathi (Record of Rights in Land) Act, 2024 keeping its promise to dump Dharani during the elections. He alleged BRS president K. Chandrashekhar Rao had sought votes from people in the name of Dharani and had turned it into a referendum on the issue.

The verdict of the people is being honoured by the Congress government. He informed that the new law will be taken to the people after rules are framed in three months. Failure to frame rules under the 2020 Act rendered it useless to the people.

“The new law has been prepared after studying ROR Acts of 18 states to ward off mistakes made in the past. We kept the draft Bill online and sought suggestions for 40 days. BRS leader Harish Rao and Vinod Kumar wrote letters to us suggesting changes. Debates were held in 33 collectorates and opinions were taken into account. The mistakes of the past were removed. The positive aspect like scope for immediate mutation has been retained in the new act also. After the 2020 Act was passed, registrations were stopped for four months of non-agri land and agricultural land for two months,” the minister said.

Earlier members such as T. Harish Rao, Akbaruddin Owaisi, Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao and Palvai Harish Babu citing rules sought time for studying the Bill. Owaisi asked the government not to bulldoze the Bill and commit the same mistake committed by the BRS earlier. He then thanked the minister Sridhar Babu for accepting their plea.
