Ponnam Tells Leaders, Babus to Visit Hostels
HYDERABAD: BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar has asked public representatives and officials to visit welfare hostels to assess the conditions and interact with students, with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka having started the exercise.
Reiterating the government’s focus on education, Prabhakar requested district collectors, IAS, and IPS officers to visit hostels in their respective areas. He encouraged them to share meals with the students to gain a first hand understanding of their experiences.
Recently, the government increased the diet charges by 40 per cent and cosmetic charges by 200 per cent for nearly eight lakh students in SC, ST, BC, and minority hostels in the state. In addition, the government also provided infrastructure facilities in schools across the state at a cost of ₹667.25 crore.
The revised diet charges, which came into effect on Saturday, are expected to improve the quality of food provided to students. The menu has been prepared based on the recommendations of experienced medical professionals.
