Power demand peaks in Hyderabad in February
City’s power use pattern is in sync with overall power demand in Telangana

Hyderabad:In line with rising power demand across the state, Hyderabad is witnessing record power demand owing to increased load from factories and household consumption in view of rising temperatures.
The power demand reached almost 15,900 MW on February 10, which is a steep jump compared to 14,398 MW on February 10, 2024. Similarly, the power demand in the GHMC limits has crossed 3,200 MW on February 10 as against 2,928 MW the same day last year.
The peak power demand in the state so far was recorded on February 7, 15,920 MW, as against 14,276 MW last year. The GHMC limits also witnessed the highest power demand of 4,352 MW on February 6.
According to power utilities, the power demand being witnessed in February this year is generally recorded in the peak summer, in March. The power utilities had faced the peak power demand of 15,623 MW on March 6 last year, which was already crossed this year on February 7, when the power demand reached 15,920 MW.
Telangana Southern Power Distribution Corporation Ltd chairman Musharraf Ali Faruqui said that they have taken a number of precautionary measures in anticipation of huge power demand this season.
Senior engineers have been appointed as nodal officers for each district, and the electricity control room (1912) has been strengthened. The officials have been directed to remain highly vigilant, ensuring uninterrupted power supply and avoiding any inconvenience to consumers, Musharraf Ali said.
