Preserve and promote Telugu: Union minister Kishan Reddy
Hyderabad: “I was delighted to participate in the 12th biennial World Telugu Federation conference held at the HICC in Hyderabad,” said Union minister G. Kishan Reddy. "For the past 32 years, this organisation has been a beacon for Telugu language, culture, and the artists who keep these traditions alive. It's truly heartwarming to see Telugu people from around the globe come together to celebrate and protect our shared heritage. Their dedication to our mother tongue is inspiring."
Reddy emphasised the importance of language preservation, stating, "By speaking and writing, we can protect our language. There is a need to encourage children to read Telugu literature daily. It is also necessary to develop our mother tongue in digital formats. In everyday usage, there is only about 30 per cent Telugu and 70 per cent English words." He advocated for the use of Telugu as the medium of instruction at least until the primary level, urging states to implement the national education policy.
"Telugu should be used in courts, and judgments should be delivered in Telugu," Reddy added. He also suggested that movie titles should be in Telugu to promote the language further.
