Nizamabad: Fever cases, especially dengue, have been on the rise for the last few days due to recent climatic changes in the Nizamabad district. To take steps to curb the outbreak of seasonal diseases, the authorities have taken up household surveys on fever cases across the district.
The survey teams visited 2.62 lakh houses in the Nizamabad, Bodhan and Armoor divisions and conducted 6.21 lakh tests, out of which around 3,885 people were found suffering from fevers. The Mosra primary health centre recorded the highest number of dengue cases, with 34 cases.
Uncleared drainages and water stagnation in colonies have become breeding grounds for mosquitoes resulting in the outbreak of vector-borne diseases. Both government and private hospitals in the area have been witnessing a rise in fever cases. Majority of patients were turning to private hospitals for treatment if the fever persisits for more than four days.
Taking advantage of the situation, a few private hospitals were fleecing the patients. It's been alleged that some doctors were unnecessarily advising hospital admission for fever patients. Sheik Salam, a private employee, alleged that few diagnostic centres were producing false reports on dengue by showing less platelet count only to exploit patients.
The diagnostic centres were colluding with with private hospitals to overcharge dengue patients, he alleged. There were discrepancies in platelet count in reports from different laboratories. To encash the situation, few hospitals were admitting patients on the pretext of dengue, he alleged, urging the district administration to conduct raids on private hospitals to curb this kind of exploitation.
