Protests Erupt During Grama Sabhas in Khammam

Khammam: Grama sabhas, currently being conducted across the state for selection of beneficiaries for four new welfare schemes by the government, were delayed at several places in Khammam districts due to protests by people.

In Khammam district, villagers of Gattusingaram in Kusumanchi mandal tore the beneficiary list, alleging the list included names of ineligible persons. Villagers flew into heated arguments with officials at Chinthakani over missing of their names in the list. They alleged that the household survey was not conducted properly by the officials, resulting in the current mess.

They, however, relented after officials assured them that they can resubmit their applications and can raise objections on the names of ineligible persons.

In all, 250 grama sabhas were conducted in the district on the day and 41, 282 applications including 14,783 for Indiramma houses, 15,752 for ration cards, 1,565 for Rythu Bharosa and 9,213 for Indiramma Atmeeya Bharosa were received from people.

In Suryapet district, people staged protests at a grama sabha in ward no 3 of Suryapet and at Tirumalagiri.
