HYDERABAD: The pre-release event of ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, at the Yousufguda Battalion police lines, led to heavy traffic jams in the area despite a prior traffic advisory. Commuters faced inconvenience as the roads became congested due to the large crowd that had gathered for the event.
A petrol pump near the battalion had to be closed to prevent the crowd from entering its premises. Metro commuters also struggled because of the overflow of people near the adjacent Yousufguda metro station. The U-turn near the police grounds turned into a choke point, adding to the chaos.
However the hero Allu Arjun, celebrities and other VIPs made it to the venue from separate entrances. K. Sindhuri, a metro commuter unaware of the event, expressed concern about navigating through the massive gathering near the station.
Another commuter N. Sudhakar, who was stuck in traffic, said that such large-scale events should be held on the outskirts of the city to such disturbances. “It’s terrifying for people travelling for emergencies,” he said.
Traffic DCP Rahul Hegde stated that heavy vehicles and some buses were diverted to ease the situation.
The major traffic disruption was confined to the Yousufguda main road, but it did raise questions from the public about the viability of such venues for large gatherings in busy locations.
