‘Putti’, ‘theppa’ major attractions at Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary

Bhadradri Kothagudem: The introduction of new facilities, including ferry services on the Kinnerasani River between Chinnaravigudem and Parnashala, is set to attract more tourists to the district.

Officials from the tourism and forest departments are implementing several initiatives aimed at enhancing the region’s appeal to visitors. The 3-km ferry ride will offer tourists breathtaking views of the Kinnerasani River, surrounded by lush green landscapes, dense forests, and majestic hills, providing a relaxing and scenic experience.
In an effort to maintain a natural aesthetic, the ferry structures will be constructed using bamboo sticks instead of concrete. The “Putti,” traditional floating boats made from bamboo, will operate in the designated canal of the Kinnerasani project. Officials have successfully completed trial runs of the Putti, ensuring their readiness for public use.
Although the Putti journey is relatively short, it promises to deliver a unique and memorable experience for tourists. Comprehensive safety measures have been established, with skilled operators managing the Putti using long sticks and ropes to navigate the waters securely.
The Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary (KWS), divided by the Kinnerasani River, remains a big attraction in the area, located just 7 km from Chinnaravigudem. The forest department has developed a deer park en route to the dam, enhancing the sanctuary’s offerings. KWS is renowned for its exotic wildlife, allowing visitors to observe a variety of animals in their natural habitats. The Kinnerasani River flows through the sanctuary before merging with the Godavari River.
District collector Jithesh V. Patel highlighted that the addition of boat and Theppa (traditional boats) ferrying services will significantly enhance the Kinnerasani project’s appeal to tourists. He assured that stringent safety protocols will be in place to ensure the well-being of all visitors during their ferry rides. Further, numerous other facilities are planned for development within the park to enrich the overall tourist experience.
