Rachakonda police busts interstate drug racket, 2 held

Hyderabad: After a patient watch, the Rachakonda police arrested two persons who were using cartons meant to carry gas stove regulators to transport drugs via bike taxis. The duo was arrested in Safilguda and police seized `23 lakh worth heroin weighing 193 grams from them.
Rachakonda police commissioner G. Sudheer Babu identified the duo as Mahesh Sarem, 28, and Mahipal, 19, natives of Rajasthan. They had been working as gas stove repair agents for five years.
Sudhir Babu said Mahesh procured heroin from one Samsuddin of Rajasthan and stored it at Mahipal’s residence.
Their peddling was entirely contact-less. Customers would contact them and pay online for drugs using a QR code that the duo would provide. The duo would then pack the narcotic in a gas valve box and send it to the consumer via unsuspecting bike taxi drivers.
Police said the duo was in the drug trade for a while, and three of their customers had been identified. “One of the consumers was frequently receiving these valves and he did not even have a gas stove,” commissioner Sudheer Babu said with a chuckle.
