Ex-Army Officer Arrested for Wife's Brutal Murder in Hyderabad

Hyderabad:The Rachakonda police on Tuesday formally arrested ex-armyman P. Gurumurthy for the murder of his wife Venkata Madhavi in a case that attracted national attention for its brutality.
Rachakonda police commissioner G. Sudheer Babu said Gurumurthy, who displayed no remorse, was arrested on the basis of technical evidence, forensic analysis, and a detailed examination of CCTV footage.
Key to breaking the case was the discovery that the victim had not left her home, after she was seen entering the premises with her husband on the night of January 16.
Sudheer Babu said that after an argument, Gurumurthy had slapped his wife, causing her to fall and lose consciousness. “He then strangled her and ensured her death. The crime continued with a horrific cover-up that took from 10 am to 6 pm to complete.”
Gurumurthy dismembered his wife’s body, boiled the parts and burnt the remains on a stove. He crushed the bones and flushed it down along the blood in the toilet. He was caught by CCTV cameras while disposing of the rest of the remains. He left the bucket which carried the remains at the lake, which was used as evidence.
The murder came to light when Gurumurthy confessed to the victim’s uncle, who reported the matter to the police. Police have used the equipment used for the disappearance of evidence.
