Raghuveer Sets Fresh Record in Win Margin

Nalgonda: Congress’s Nalgonda candidate Kunduru Raghuveer Reddy has set a record with his 5,59,906-vote victory in the Lok Sabha elections, erasing the mark of 2,22,280 votes set by then Progressive Democratic Front candidate Raavi Narayana Reddy in 1952, 75 years and 17 years ago.

Reacting to the mammoth victory, senior Congress leader and Raghuveer Reddy’s father Kunduru Jana Reddy said his son would find a place in the list of top 10 candidates with the largest margins.

The vote margin of Raghuveer Reddy can bring recognition to Nalgonda, Jana Reddy said.

Elections were conducted for Nalgonda were held 17 times since 1952. That year, Raavi Narayana Reddy got 3,09,162 votes. In that election, Jawaharlal Nehru secured 2,33,571 votes. Prime Minister Nehru, impressed by the victory, invited to inaugurate the Parliament session.

In 1991 and 1996, renowned Communist leader late Dharma Bhiksham won the constituency with a margin of about 70,000 votes.

In 1998, CPI leader Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy defeated TD candidate Gutha Sukhender Reddy by 24,450 votes. In 2014, Sukhender Reddy, a Congress candidate, got a majority of 1,93,153 votes.
