Rahul’s 'save constitution' rally in TG next month

Nominated posts in state-run bodies to be filled by month-end: Mahesh Goud

Hyderabad:Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal in Delhi on Wednesday to discuss Rahul Gandhi’s “Save Constitution padayatra” (Samvidhan Bachao Rashtriya Padayatra) in Telangana. The rally is planned for the first fortnight of the next month, as part of a nationwide campaign that will start on Republic Day.

The initiative, spearheaded by the AICC, aims to highlight the need to safeguard constitutional values. The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) had decided during its January 8 PAC meeting at Gandhi Bhavan, to protest against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s alleged comments disrespecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The PAC also outlined a year-long programme focused on saving the Constitution and sought the participation of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi in the Telangana leg of the rally.

Wednesday’s meeting, attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud and other senior party leaders, sought to finalise details for the Telangana rally.

Later, speaking to the media, Goud proposed holding a massive public meeting in Khammam or Suryapet, where Rahul Gandhi would deliver a key address.

Goud said that the party will fill nominated posts in government bodies, including state-run corporations, by the month-end. However, he declined to comment on the long-pending cabinet expansion, stating that the final decision rests with the party high command and the Chief Minister.

The meeting also deliberated on forming a new TPCC executive committee. He said that leaders, who were actively engaged with the public, will be considered for appointments to DCC presidencies.
