Rail staffer dies trying to save daughters

Hyderabad: A railway key man, who tried to save his two daughters, died along with them after being hit by the Rayalaseema Express at Gowdavalli station in Malkajgiri district at about 5 pm on Sunday.

The victim T. Krishna, 38, was busy at work at the station and did not at first notice his daughters, 11-year-old T. Varshitha and five-year-old T. Varini, playing near the tracks, said B. Saieashwar Goud, Secunderabad GRP inspector.

Krishna heard Rayalaseema Express coming and when noticed his daughters playing on the tracks. He shouted out to them to move away and then ran to save them. He carried Varini and was running to save Varshitha when the train hit them, Goud said.

His daughters had come to see him over the weekend, which they did every week, railway police said. The Rayalaseema Express engine driver hardly had any time to apply the brakes, police said.

Krishna was working as a key man for 13 years. Varshitha was studying Class VI and Varini Class one. The family had shifted to Sri Sai Nilayam Raghavendranagar Colony, close to the station, four years back.

“It's a trespassing case as per law and the victim's family members will not get compensation”, a GRP officer said.
