Rains Bring Relief to Warangal and Karimnagar Farmers

WARANGAL/KARIMNAGAR: As a big relief to farmers who had been facing dry conditions for the last fortnight, the erstwhile Warangal and Karimnagar districts received heavy rainfall on Sunday.

Farmers in many villages had been offering prayers to rain God seeking ample rain for the sowing operations and full germinations of cotton and other crops in the region.

With the start of the monsoon, farmers of the region prepared their fields and took up sowing kharif crops after getting seeds by standing in long queues and facing hardships. But later the two districts had witnessed low rainfall in June, affecting the germination of seeds. To avoid re-sowing, some farmers provided water to fields using tankers, sprinklers, sprayers and pots for germination.

In the erstwhile Warangal district, the highest amount of rainfall was recorded in Venkatapur mandal at 57.2 mm followed by Palmela mandal with 54.2 mm rainfall and Govindaraopet mandal at 54 mm.

The highest rainfall in the erstwhile Karimnagar district was recorded in Veenavanka mandal at 69 mm followed by Jammikunta with 65 mm.

Meanwhile, the Met department predicted heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at a speed of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated places in Peddapalli, Jagtial and Rajanna Sircilla districts in the next 24 hours and alerted people to follow the guidelines of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
