Rains Damage Roads in Nizamabad, Kamareddy

Nizamabad/Kamareddy:Heavy rains since last week have left roads in Nizamabad and Kamareddy in a pitiable condition, with motorists demanding immediate restoration works.

NH-44 (Kanyakumari to Srinagar) and NH-63 (Nizamabad to Jagdalpur) are the worst affected. The district administration has sent proposals for funds to repair these roads, along with some under the state department and the panchayati raj.

In Nizamabad district, 49.72 km roads under the panchayati raj were damaged and officials estimated around `3.15 crore for cost of repair works.

Similarly, roads and buildings department sought `39.14 crore for permanent restoration or `2.39 crore for temporary restoration on about 59.90 km of affected portions.

NH-44 is riddled with potholes from Ramayampet to Chandrayanpally in Indalwai mandal. The vehicle drivers are unable to notice the dangerous potholes. Construction of flyovers near Kamareddy and Gandhari have affected motorists too.

The National Highway Authority of India officials have started repair works at some places but they are going slowly. Rajender, a realtor, said, "Why not take up road repair works on war footing when NHAI mandatorily collects toll charges from the people at different places."

The bypass road at Arsapally railway gate, Dichpally (NH-44), Nizamabad Road, Nizamabad to Bodhan roads are damaged.

District collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu reviewed the situation and directed officials to take up repair works in Nizamabad district.
