RAINS: High-level bridges on streams and rivulets act as lifeline for interior areas

Adilabad: District officials and elected representatives are trying to speed up the construction of high-level bridges, culverts and roads so that villagers can use them during the monsoon season in the Adilabad region.

Officials say it has been proved that the high-level bridges on the streams and rivulets helped the people of interior areas to lessen their hardships during the monsoons.

The state government is constructing high-level bridges in place of low-level bridges that submerge in floodwaters and do not serve the purpose.

Officials say they are trying to complete the works on the high-level bridge being erected at an estimated cost of `1.82 crore on the rivulets between the Mothuguda and Appapelli villages in the Asifabad mandal.

Recently, rural development minister Seethakka visited the site of the high-level bridge and asked the official to complete the works as early as possible without compromising on quality, so that the road connectivity between the villages would improve.

Seethakka said the state government is taking special steps for the construction of check dams, internal roads and bridges and get the clearance for the same from the forest department, for development of the interior areas in the Adilabad region.

She asked the officials to start repairs to the main road from Asifabad to Utnoor.

Meanwhile, Boath BRS MLA Anil Jadhav inspected the construction works for the bridge in Rajura village and asked the officials to speed up the works.

Five new pillars of the bridge were constructed with `13.5 crore at Andevelli village in Kagaznagar mandal. The people of the 57 villages got road connectivity in Kagaznagar, Dahegaon and Bheemini mandals in Komram Bheem Asifabad district.

A portion of the bridge was washed away in the floodwaters last year and road connectivity was badly affected to many interior villages.
