Ramchander Rao Condemns Denial of Permission to BJP Delegation’s SCCL Visit

Charges Congress government trying to suppress truth of coal theft

Hyderabad:BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao strongly condemned the denial of police permission to a party delegation to visit the SCCL mines to find out ‘coal thiefs’ who were behind the disappearance of nearly 45 lakh metric tonnes of coal. He alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was spreading false propaganda against Union minister Kishan Reddy to hide Singareni coal scam.

Speaking to newsmen, Rao lashed out at the Revanth Reddy government for using the police to obstruct a fact-finding team led by party floor leader Maheshwar Reddy, MLAs, and MLCs, who went to uncover the truth behind reports had vanished from SCCL mines. Though the Centre holds 49 per cent in SCCL, it has no control over the company, with the majority stake held by the state government, and hence Kishan Reddy had written a letter demanding an inquiry into this scam.

BJP Assembly floor leader Maheshwar Reddy demanded a CBI probe into the incident. He alleged that BJP activists and leaders had sustained injuries and hospitalised due to the police action when they tried to visit SCCL. He demanded probe into SCCL for the last 12 years from the tenure of N. Sridhar as CMD to that of. Balram. He asked the state government to either appoint a House committee or conduct a probe by CBI.

Maheshwar Reddy also alleged that by reducing the number of schools in the name of rationalisation, the state government was pushing them for closure. He said over 90 per cent of government schools in the state are in a dilapidated condition, lacking separate toilets for female students and basic infrastructure.

He asked why the statement by Revanth Reddy, promising Rs 1,000 crore to Osmania University, not fulfilled so far. Expressing deep concern, he said the condition of hostels in OU is pathetic, pointing out ‘B’ hostel has already been closed down, ‘D’ and ‘E’ hostels are on the verge of collapse. He said the quality in the messes was poor and condemned the suspension of professors who spoke up for students’ problems and rights. He demanded the immediate reconstruction of hostels at Osmania and Kakatiya Universities.
