Ranga Reddy district Joint Collector, Senior Assistant held for accepting Rs.8 lakh bribe

Hyderabad: Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught Ranga Reddy district Joint Collector MV Bhoopal Reddy red-handed for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.8 lakh for processing complainant’s work by influencing his higher officials to remove 14 guntas of land from prohibited list in Dharani website.

Bhoopal Reddy accepted the bribe from the complainant Jakkidi Muthyam Reddy of Gurramguda Village in Balapur with the help of Ranga Reddy district Collectorate senior assistant Y Madan Mohan Reddy. The ACB officials first arrested Madan Mohan Reddy at Gurramguda crossroads when he accepted the bribe amount from Muthyam Reddy in his car, according to ACB.

The ACB officials recovered the bribe amount. Upon enquiry, Madan Mohan Reddy informed that he accepted the bribe on behalf of Bhoopal Reddy and said he can call him on phone to confirm the same. When Madan Mohan Reddy called Bhoopal Reddy on his phone and confirmed the receipt of the bribe amount, the latter asked him to meet him at Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Pedda Amberpet and hand over the amount.

At about 10.41 pm on Monday, Bhoopal Reddy came to Pedda Amberpet ORR in his official Innova SUV and stopped near the vehicle of Madan Mohan Reddy. Madan Mohan Reddy handed over the bribe amount kept in a plastic bag to Bhoopal Reddy in the Innova vehicle.

The ACB officials recovered the bribe amount from Bhoopal Reddy. Both hand fingers of Bhoopal Reddy and Madan Mohan Reddy tested positive in the Phenolphthalein test. The ACB officials said Bhoopal Reddy and Madan Mohan Reddy abused their official position and powers vested on them and accepted the bribe amount.

The ACB officials produced the two persons before the special court for ACB cases in Hyderabad after which the court remanded them to judicial custody.
