Rape accused got 20-YR RI

Hyderabad: In a rape case registered at the Vanasthalipuram police station in the year 2018, a rape accused is convicted with 20 years of rigorous punishment.

The accused is I. Karthik, 22, and the victim is a 16-year-old minor who was lured in on the pretext of marriage. The duo were from Nellore. Karthik got acquainted with the minor under the pretext of marriage, and they have started a relationship.

The minor’s family learnt about it and sent her to Vanasthalipuram to reside at her maternal uncle's house. The accused even turned up at the uncle's place, and the duo eloped, leading the minor's mother to register a missing case.

Mentioning the suspect as Karthik, police tracked the duo from Hyderabad to a temple where the duo got married and headed to Tirupati, then Nellore, and later Chennai to make a livelihood. However, the duo was captured in June 2018. The forensic team, after performing a potency test, stated that the possibility of rape cannot be ruled out.

After recording the statements of the accused and minor victim, the police altered the case to a rape case and the Pocso Act. A chargesheet was filed by the police, and the LB Nagar police Fast Track Special Judge on Monday convicted the accused with 20 years of rigorous improvement and imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on him and awarded Rs 3 lakh in compensation to the victim.
