Relative Behind the Couple Suicide Held by Police
Hyderabad: Police on Tuesday arrested a man for abetting the suicide of his relative, a teenage girl, along with her boyfriend, on the ORR. The teen and 25-year-old P. Sriram had died by suicide on Monday.
The Ghatkesar police, which is investigating the case, is likely to charge the relative with extortion and threatening the victim.
It was stated that the relative, who is 26 years old, had confessed to the police that he had taken pictures of the couple, and was harassing the minor for money.
At one point, police quoting from the relative’s confession said, the minor had stated that she had no money to give him. The relative then suggested that she sell her mother's gold ring.
The minor's relative explained that the girl’s parents were aware of the affair and had reprimanded her for it. “It was the constant harassment which they could not endure.” He said the minor victim’s family was still in shock.
Police said the accused relative's father had gone to the house of the victim’s family to console her parents. Her angry family turned him away.
The parents on Tuesday took the body of the victim to the relative’s house and held a protest. Police reached the spot and pacified the family, after which the last rites were performed.
Police were still investigating the cause of the incident on the ORR, and are also looking if any other accused are connected with the case.
Police said that the body of Sriram, a cycle repair shop owner from Bibinagar in Nalgonda district, was handed over to his family who performed the final rites in the evening.
