Remand Prisoner Dies of Cardiac Arrest in Jagtial

KARIMNAGAR: Kyatam Mallesham, a 43-year-old remand prisoner, died of sudden cardiac arrest early on Thursday at a sub-jail in Jagtial district.

Police identified Mallesham as the deputy sarpanch of Ramannapet village in Maliala mandal. He is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.
Mallesham was arrested two weeks ago on charges of sexual abuse following a complaint lodged by a woman and was subsequently sent to remand.
At approximately 1.30 am, Mallesham reported severe heart pain. Given his history as a heart patient who had previously undergone bypass surgery, police transferred him to a government hospital. Despite receiving medical treatment, he succumbed at the hospital.
Mallesham’s family has accused the police of wrongfully detaining him under false charges. They allege that the police failed to inform them when he was admitted to the hospital and only notified them after his death.
The family said they intend to file a case in court, demanding that charges be brought against the police for the circumstances surrounding Mallesham’s death.
