Remarks against BRS leadership: Revanth appears before special court

The court also heard a case against minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy for similar offences

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy appeared before the special court for MPs and MLAs in Nampally on Thursday in connection with four cases filed against him over his remarks against the BRS government during election campaigns. He has been accused of using provocative language against the BRS leadership.

The cases were registered at Nalgonda Two Town police station under the IPC for statements creating or promoting enmity, intentional insult to provoke breach of peace and criminal intimidation and at the Begum Bazaar police station in Hyderabad for allleged obscene acts and songs, and threat of injury to a public servant.

Cases were registered against him in Medak district’s Kowdipally police station under the IPC for alleged wrongful restraint, disobedience of an order promulgated by public servant and in the Huzurnagar police station.

The court concluded the examination and adjourned the cases to next month.

The court also heard a case against minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy for similar offences. His legal representatives filed a petition seeking exemption from personal appearance, which was accepted by the court. The next hearing is scheduled for next month.

Union minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar got relief as the special court dismissed a case against him related to comments made during the 2022 Munugode by-election campaign. The case, filed by BRS leaders at Marriguda police station, alleged that he had compared the BRS to a criminal gang (Dandupalyam batch). Following the trial and arguments, the court acquitted him.

The court took up over nine cases against BJP legislator T. Raja Singh, related to alleged traffic disruptions during last year’s Sri Rama Navami rally and election campaigns, as well as misleading statements on his social media platforms. Some cases were heard, with a few completing cross-examinations. Cases in which witnesses were absent have been rescheduled for trial starting from next month.
