Research Must Solve Real-World Issues: Experts

Hyderabad: Prof. Shakila Thangaratinam, an expert in women’s health, suggested that research must drive real-world impact, ensuring that every woman receives quality healthcare, irrespective of location. She was speaking at the India-UK Research Partnership Meet in Hyderabad.
The event, hosted by the Fernandez Hospital Education and Research Foundation in collaboration with the University of Liverpool, brought together policymakers, researchers and clinicians to discuss maternal and child health, and discussed how evidence-based policies can improve healthcare outcomes.
Dr Indie Kaur, director of midwifery at the Fernandez Foundation, stressed the need for midwife-led care models to ensure safe and respectful maternity care. “Midwives play a crucial role in providing compassionate, evidence-based care. Strengthening midwifery services can significantly reduce maternal and newborn mortality,” she stated.
Gareth Owen, British deputy high commissioner, affirmed the UK’s commitment to healthcare collaborations with India. “Partnerships like these pave the way for innovation and education to transform maternal and newborn care,” he said.
The meet saw participation from Unicef, the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and health experts. Discussions centred on funding, policy integration and collaborative research to improve healthcare access for women across India.
