Revanth: Arbitration, Mediation Services Should Be Available Even to the Common People

Hyderabad:Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said that mediation and arbitration services should not be limited to global investors and big industrialists but also be made available to the common man and small companies. He expressed concern over the growing backlog of pending cases in courts, which, he said, was ‘a pressing challenge’.

“To reduce the burden of pending cases, alternative systems are needed for speedy and efficient resolution of cases,” he said, addressing the Commonwealth Mediation and Arbitration Conference 2024 at Gachibowli on Friday.

The event brought together international experts, policymakers, and leaders from diverse sectors, including Supreme Court judge Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai and Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court Justice Alok Aradhe.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of mediation and negotiation in expediting settlement of disputes as per law. “This not only eases the burden on the judiciary but also ensures timely justice for the people,” he said.

The Chief Minister lauded the efforts of the International Arbitration and Mediation Centre (IAMC) in Hyderabad for its pivotal role in promoting alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. “IAMC is not just limited to Telangana. It is useful for the entire country and has placed Hyderabad on the global arbitration map alongside London and Singapore,” he said.

He urged IAMC to expand its reach beyond elite circles.

“IAMC services should not be limited to global investors and big industrialists. They should be made available to the common man, especially the poor and underprivileged sections,” Reddy said. He proposed organising a dedicated conference to explore ways to make such services accessible to underprivileged communities.

Revanth highlighted Hyderabad's meteoric rise as a global hub for technology and innovation while advocating judicial reforms for efficient dispute resolution.

“Hyderabad is recognised worldwide as a power hub for software, pharma, life sciences, healthcare, and biotechnology industries. These industries are paving the way for the city to emerge as a global leader in technology,” he stated, reinforcing the city’s position on the global innovation map.

The Commonwealth Med-Orb Conference 2024 proved to be a platform for deliberating crucial global and local issues and Hyderabad emerged as a key player in shaping a progressive future for innovation and justice.

Justice Alok Aradhe said that the mediation and arbitration model is accepted widely in India.

"The mediation and arbitration model has seen increasing acceptance globally. The process is accepted widely in India and Asia due to our country's cultural preference for conciliation and dialogue. The arbitration institutions like IAMC-Hyderabad, the international arbitration centres in Delhi and Mumbai have incorporated arbitration, mediation processes into their services," he said.
