Revanth participates in Medak Cathedral centennial celebrations

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday participated in the Christmas celebrations at Medak Cathedral and also visited Edupayala Vana Durga Bhavani temple in Nagasanpalli village, Papannapet mandal in Medak district to offer special prayers to the goddess.

He also announced development programmes worth Rs 192 crore for Medak district.

Addressing a gathering at the Medak Cathedral, which is Asia’s second-largest cathedral, the Chief Minister extended Christmas greetings and congratulated the congregation on the church’s centenary.

“This cathedral is not only a place of worship but also a symbol of the unity and resilience of Medak,” he remarked. The Chief Minister sanctioned Rs 29.18 crore for additional development works on the church premises.

Revanth Reddy highlighted his government’s commitment to supporting marginalised communities, particularly Dalit and tribal Christians, through schemes like the Indiramma housing initiative and the provision of 200 units of free electricity. “The Congress government is a government for the poor,” he said.

He expressed his personal connection to the Medak Cathedral. “I had vowed to visit this sacred place again as Chief Minister after seeking blessings here as TPCC President last year. I am grateful to fulfill this promise today,” he said.

During his visit to the Edupayala temple later, the Chief Minister announced Rs 35 crore for infrastructure improvements. The funds will be used for the widening of roads, installation of high-mast lights, and enhanced facilities for devotees at the temple premises.

He also laid the foundation stone for several key projects aimed at boosting infrastructure in Medak district. These include road construction projects at a cost of Rs 52.76 crore for roads connecting tribal villages, Young India Integrated Residential School Complex and Indira Mahila Shakti Bhavan at a cost of Rs 5 crore.

The Chief Minister handed over Rs 100 crore cheque for self-help group (SHG) women in Medak under bank linkage programme to assist them to access bank loans at subsidised rates.

Ministers Damodara Rajanarasimha, Konda Surekha, and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, along with TPCC President B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, Medak MP Madhavaneni Raghunandan Rao, and other prominent leaders accompanied the Chief Minister during his visit.
