Revanth: Realignment of RRR South to Connect Seaports in AP

Hyderabad:In a significant push for Telangana’s infrastructure development, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy emphasised the critical importance of aligning the southern section of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR) project with the broader interests of Telangana state. During an extensive review meeting held at his residence on Wednesday evening, he discussed various infrastructure projects, including the RRR’s southern leg, the construction of radial roads, and the development of a greenfield road connecting the upcoming dry port with key seaports in Andhra Pradesh.

Revanth Reddy highlighted the need for the southern part of the RRR to be strategically aligned to serve Telangana’s interests effectively. He stressed that the alignment should facilitate access to essential services, such as education and healthcare, for the families of employees working in the new Fourth City. The CM reviewed the alignment changes suggested by officials following last week’s discussions and, noting some remaining discrepancies, directed further modifications to optimise the alignment. He instructed the officials to finalise the alignment promptly and commence operations without delay.

The review meeting also covered the progress of radial roads planned to connect the Outer Ring Road (ORR) with the RRR. Revanth Reddy underscored the urgency of accelerating land acquisition for these roads, advocating for a compassionate approach towards the affected landowners. He urged officials to consider additional governmental support alongside adequate compensation to ensure the process is humane and fair.

Another crucial topic of discussion was the development of a Greenfield Highway to connect the proposed dry port with the seaports at Machilipatnam and Kakinada. Revanth Reddy instructed officials to consider routes that would maximise benefits for Telangana while taking into account the plans of Andhra Pradesh government on favoured routes. He also suggested that a comprehensive study be conducted on the potential success of inland waterways as a transport option, noting that the Central government is prioritising such projects. The CM requested a detailed report on the feasibility and success rates of these initiatives as soon as possible.

In an innovative move to promote eco-tourism, Revanth Reddy proposed the development of night safaris in forest areas along the Raviryal-Amangal road, which falls between the ORR and RRR. He pointed out the unique advantage of having an international airport, an urban centre, and forest areas in close proximity, and emphasised the need to capitalise on this rare combination. Drawing parallels with nature conservation efforts in Bengaluru, the CM expressed confidence that similar initiatives could thrive in Telangana if the forest areas are linked with industrial development in the Fourth City. He further suggested that the scenic valleys around Rachakonda could be leveraged to attract the film industry, adding another dimension to the region's economic potential.

The Chier Minister emphasised the necessity of seamless inter-departmental coordination to ensure the timely acquisition of land and the smooth implementation of infrastructure projects, including the RRR, radial roads, and the Fourth City. He warned that future reviews must demonstrate tangible progress, or else stringent measures would be taken against those responsible for delays.

The review meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including R&B Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, CM’s Adviser Vem Narender Reddy, State Government Adviser (Infrastructure) Srinivasa Raju, Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari, and HMDA Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmed, among others.
