Revanth to set timelines for SPEED projects
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has decided to set timelines for the completion of 19 major infrastructure projects under the state’s ambitious ‘SPEED’ initiative (Smart, Proactive, Efficient, and Effective Delivery), official sources said.
The initiative, announced in August 2024, was envisioned to accelerate Telangana's development but has seen no tangible progress in the past five months, with projects yet to move beyond planning stages.
Sources added that the Chief Minister will hold a review meeting this week to finalise an action plan for the SPEED projects, ensuring their implementation begins promptly. The Chief Minister is taking this step ahead of his 10-day international tour from January 13 to 23, during which he will seek investments for the state in Australia, Singapore, and Davos. He will also seek investments and loans for few of these major infra projects.
The foreign trip will see Revanth Reddy in Australia from January 14 to 17, Singapore from January 18 to 19, and Davos from January 20 to 23. The CM will attend the annual World Economic Forum (WEF) summit in Davos and highlight Telangana’s growth potential to attract global investors.
The SPEED initiative includes a range of transformative projects aimed at boosting infrastructure, education, healthcare, tourism, and urban development in Telangana. The key projects are Musi Riverfront Development, development of satellite towns around Hyderabad to decongest the city.
The expansion of Hyderabad Metro Rail, construction of Hyderabad Regional Ring Road, new airports in districts, construction of Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi, construction of new Osmania General Hospital, nursing colleges, and paramedical colleges, promoting medical, eco, and temple tourism projects etc.
Despite its ambitious goals, the SPEED initiative has faced significant delays due to a lack of fixed timelines and regular monitoring. Revanth Reddy had initially promised to personally oversee these projects through monthly review meetings and establish an online portal for tracking progress. However, neither of these measures has been implemented, leading to delays and lack of focus among officials.
To address these issues, Revanth Reddy plans to introduce strict deadlines and hold officials accountable for any delays without valid justification. Each project will have a detailed action plan with clear timelines for individual tasks. The Planning Department will also operationalise the proposed online portal, providing daily updates on project progress to ensure transparency and public accountability.
