Nalgonda: Union coal minister G. Kishan Reddy on Saturday dubbed Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the latter did not belong to a backward class by birth as irresponsible.
Speaking to the media in the BJP office at Nalgonda, he said Revanth Reddy is denigrating the post of Chief Minister by making irresponsible remarks. Reddy made such comments out of frustration as he was losing grip on the administration and the party.
He said that Modi’s caste was included in the BC list on July 20, 1994 when the Congress was in power in Gujarat. He challenged the Chief Minister to join an open debate on whether Modi was a BC or not. Reminding that Gouds and Munnuru Kapu castes were included in the BC list in 1997, he wondered whether Reddy will call these castes as converted BCs.
He reminded that several castes were included in BC list in 1970 following the recommendation of the Anantha Raman Commission. Before 1970, there were 93 castes in the BC list and now the BC list has 113 castes.
Stating that the BJP is committed to the welfare of BCs, he said it was the BJP government which implemented the recommendations of the Mandal Commission. He accused the Congress of not providing an opportunity to a BC leader to become Chief Minister of the state.
He questioned why the Congress government which ruled the country for 60 years, did not conduct a caste survey in India. He pointed out that the BC organizations have alleged that the caste census conducted in Telangana was full of flaws. The BJP would stand in support of the BC organizations on the issue, he said.

He alleged that the Congress did not have the commitment and capacity to fulfill its six guarantees. It has not fulfilled its promise of Vidhya Bharsoa Cards with Rs 5 lakh limit, setting up of new universities in Adilabad, Khammam and Medak and employment allowance of Rs 4,000 per month. The Congress government is not in a position to pay retirement benefits to employees in time. Students were also facing problems due to non-payment of Rs 8,000 core towards tuition fee reimbursement.
He said it has become a fashion for the Congress and the BRS to say that the BJP government did nothing to Telangana. He alleged that Congress and BRS governments sent Telangana into Rs 10 lakh crore indebtedness in 11 years.
