Rift between cops, Cong. workers over tractors rally in Nizamabad
Nizamabad: Police curbs on vehicle rallies, especially two-wheelers, sparked row between Congress activists and the police under Nizamabad police commissionerate limits. Congress leaders had planned to take out a rally of tractors rally in Nizamabad Rural and Balkonda Assembly constituencies on Friday extending solidarity for crop loan waiver scheme, but police persuaded them not to do so due to law and order problems.
In view of communally sensitive areas in Nizamabad district, police higher-ups did not encourage vehicle rallies. To monitor the situation, police forces took utmost care in Nizamabad, Bodhan, Armoor and other rural areas.
Congress leaders led by Nizamabad Rural MLA R. Bhupathi Reddy took out a rally in Mopal mandal headquarters on Friday thanking Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for Rs 2 lakh crop loan waiver.
But police officers told the Congress leaders not to use too many tractors in the rally and in a symbolic fashion a few tractors were used for the event. Congress leaders mobilised around 70 tractors for the rally, but rainfall disrupted their effort. In Balkonda, Congress leaders followed the police instructions and took out the rally with minimum number of vehicles.
