Adilabad: Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad district has installed room heaters for newborns and their mothers as mercury dipped below 10-degree Celsius temperature in the erstwhile Adilabad district for the last week.
The heaters would help authorities to maintain 26 degrees Celsius room temperature, which is crucial for newborns, who otherwise will develop hypothermia among newborns.
Four room heaters are installed in the in-born, out-born and Kangaroo healthcare centre and mother breastfeeding room in the Mother and Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU).
Following the installation of room heaters, mothers say their newborn babies are comfortable and have been sleeping well.
Dr K. Ananth Rao, a nodal officer of SNCU, said four heaters are operating to maintain the room temperature for SNCU, which has 20 beds.
A large number of patients, including pregnant women from areas bordering Maharashtra, come to RIMS, Adilabad, for medical treatment and deliveries.
K.. Seema Jadhav, a resident of Mahore in Maharashtra, who was breastfeeding her 11-day baby in the breastfeeding room, said ‘Gharam Rahanese .. Baby Sora’ (baby is sleeping because of warm room temperatures).
Sangeetha of Adilabad said her newborn baby was sleeping without crying because of the comfortable room temperature.
