Road Caved In Goshamahal’s Chaknawadi, Again

Hyderabad: Goshamahal witnessed yet another road collapse near Chaknawadi on Friday, causing alarm among residents and commuters. Despite repeated repairs, the same stretch of road caved in for the fourth time on Friday, leaving people fearful of walking or driving through the area.

The incident occurred when a drain line near plywood shops of Chaknawadi on the road connecting Darussalam and Chaknawadi gave way unexpectedly. The road was undergoing repairs, and lorry passing over the Nala fell into the 10-foot-deep cavity.

The driver escaped unharmed, but the lorry sank into the pit. Locals stated that the road caved in within seconds in front of their eyes, and said they are deeply concerned about their safety in the area.

This marks the fourth time the same drain line road in Chaknawadi has collapsed. In 2022, a massive part of the road caved in, taking with it several vendor carts, bikes, trucks and a car.

In July 2024, a truck was driving over a section of the road built on two different drain pipes, and the road caved in again along with the truck.

Authorities removed the truck and made road repairs, but Kamlesh Jain, a local vendor, said the work was temporary.

In October 2024, the road caved in for the third time. As the road caved in the morning hours, no one was injured and no property loss was reported. But less than three months later, the road caved in again on Friday.

Residents blame the recurring incidents on the dilapidated condition of the ancient drainage system. They said that authorities have ignored their repeated requests to fully restore the drain line, opting for temporary fixes instead.

“Each time the nala collapses, the entire area becomes inaccessible. It disrupts our daily life and business activities. How can GHMC keep ignoring this situation, even though the road caved not once, not twice or thrice, but four times”, Kamlesh added.

Residents are now questioning how long such dangers will continue and who will be held responsible if a fatal accident occurs.
