Rs 2,600 crore spent on laying rural roads: Seethakka

Hyderabad: Panchayat raj and rural development minister Danasari “Seethakka” Anasuya on Wednesday urged officials to prioritise the development, maintenance, and repair of rural roads in the state, which serve as lifelines for approximately 2.5 crore people living in villages.

“As per the Chief Minister’s directions, we are laying roads from every habitation to gram panchayat headquarters, and from there to mandal and district headquarters. The government is spending Rs 2,600 crore on rural roads, and officials must ensure that every rupee is spent wisely. The work should be of high quality so these roads will last a long time,” Seethakka said during a meeting with her department officials to review the progress of rural road projects in Telangana.
She also noted that the previous government had left several road projects incomplete, such as the Gundivagu bridge in Adilabad district. “Road connectivity can become a matter of life and death, as I have seen firsthand in my constituency. It is our responsibility to ensure that every village is well connected to the rest of the state through good roads,” she added.
