RTC strike: Labour dept plans Feb. 10 meeting between unions, management

One of the demands of the employees was the right to form unions without any restrictions.

Hyderabad: With a strike threat by RTC workers unions looming, the labour department has called for a conciliation meeting between them and the TGRTC management on February 10.

The unions had on January 17 served strike notices listing a series of demands and warned that they would strike work beginning February 9. With the talks scheduled to begin on February 10.

One of the demands of the employees was the right to form unions without any restrictions.

While the joint commissioner of labour in his letter to RTC managing director on Friday called him for the meeting with the union representatives, it is uncertain if anyone from the management would attend the meeting as the RTC does not have any recognised official union, according to sources in the RTC.

It may be recalled that a joint action committee of the employees unions had said it presented a list of 21 demands to the RTC management along with its strike notice. These include completing the merger process of RTC employees with the government, payment of `2,700 crore towards CCS and PF arrears, and implementation of two pay revision commissions.

The JAC also alleged that the RTC management was seeking to privatise the service, and demanded that the Congress government fulfil the promises it made to RTC employees in its election manifesto.
